Augmented reality is the blending of virtual reality and real life, as developers can create images within applications that blend in with contents in the real world. With AR, users are able to interact with virtual contents in the real world, and are able to distinguish between the two.
Augmented reality application built by the WoL complements the learning experience.Text, graphics and audio is superimposed into a student’s real time environment. Textbooks as educational reading material contain embedded “markers” that, when scanned by an AR device, produce supplementary information to the student rendered in a multimedia format.
Students learn through experiences, besides when children are so young, they need visual to learn. The AR would improve the content of World of Letters flagship Early Childhood Curriculum using interactive technology and keep students engaged, personalize their individual learning and get them interested.
World of Letters (WoL) has developed an Early Childhood curriculum which is designed based on world renowned Early Childhood systems such as Letterland and Jolly phonics. The WoL provide quality, multisensory international standard curriculum to KG's in Jordan making learning enjoyable and fostering the sense of pride among Arab children in their language and heritage. The curriculum introduces basic Arabic language to children using multisensory ways (through pictures, stories, actions, rhymes, games and songs), all the senses are activated and tightly related to phonic representation of the letter.
The underlying foundational learning concepts is linked to three main themes: tolerance and peace, environment and equity. The learners profile would be that of a proud Arab children, that love their language and country and who are equipped with the critical thinking and problem solving skills towards greater tolerance and understanding.
The use of the tablets to augment characters and letters would enhance learning and help meet the differences of students with all kinds of intelligence. Also, the introduction of 12 to 15 animated vocabulary words for each letter would expand and enrich their vocabulary.
The App also would introduce songs for the shape and sound of letters and the child is able to interact with the App by tracing the letter in virtual space.
